Description

On Feb. 9, 2016, NSF Director France Córdova presented an overview of the President's fiscal year (FY) 2017 budget request for the agency of $7.964 billion, an increase of $500.53 million (6.7 percent) over the FY 2016 estimate. The increase would help NSF support more promising research. The agency receives about 50,000 proposals each year and selects about 12,000 for funding. “This means that we decline about 38,000 proposals each year -- many of them passed over due to lack of funds, rather than failing to meet our standards,” Cordova said. “This budget will help us increase the amount of great science we support, rather than leaving potential discovery and innovation on the cutting room floor due to lack of funding.” Learn more about the FY 2017 budget request on NSF’s budget page.
