Description

John Paul JonesBorn on 6 July 1747 at Argibland, Scotland, Jones was originally appointed in the Continental Navy in 1775. During the American Revolution, he also commanded Continental ships Alfred, Ranger, and America, which was later given to France. Following the American Revolution, he subsequently served in both the French and Russian Navies. Jones died on 19 July 1792 in Paris, France, the US Navy has named five ships in his honor.
