| Description |
English: NCR 5 beside Swan Pool This path follows the route of the colliery railway that used to connect the pit head, located just to the north of Swan Pool(in my youth known as Wasson Pool) with the distribution centre at the ex-Dartmouth Colliery (now the major road junction of Telford Way & Kendrick Way, just south of M5 J1). The cable railway was closed & abandoned in about 1960. During the early to mid 60's this section of the railway became part of my secondary school cross-country running course - I've ran along here far to often to remember (especially in the long cold snowy winter of 1963). A huge spoil heap used to be located just beyond the tree line and as far as I am aware that spoil now constitutes part of the foundations of the adjacent M5. |
