Summary[edit]

Description My first glimpse of the Terracotta army! I was amazed at the sheer size of the pit, and at the sheer number of terracotta figures! And to think this is only the first of the three pits! Many more might even lay buried, yet to be discovered. The Terracotta Army, aka Terracotta Warriors and Horses, are the most significant archeological excavations of the 20th century. Excavation work is still ongoing at this site, which is around 1.5 km east of Emperor Qin Shi Huang's Mausoleum, also in the vicinity (which we did not visit) in Xian. The Terracotta warriors is a sight not to be missed by any visitor to China. (Xi'an, Shaanxi, China, May 2017)
