During World War II, Second Lieutenant Charles Elwood Yeager, U.S. Army Air Corps, was a P-51B Mustang fighter pilot assigned to the 363d Fighter Squadron, 357th Fighter Group. Un des plus grands aviateur XXe siècle jusqu'à aujourd'hui, né en 1923 à Myra, Charles Elwood Yeager a aujourd'hui 94 ans, as de l'aviation il a abattu 13 appareils allemands et un Me 262 à réaction et fait partis des rares à être devenu "AS" En 43 au sein du 375th Fighter Group il appris à piloter sur Bell P-39, en 44 il eu une victoire avant de se faire abattre par un Messerschmidt allemand le 5 mars entre Bordeaux et Toulouse à bord de son 1er Glamorous Glen ; un P-51B-5-NA (s/n 43-6763), un des premiers Mustang sans le fameux "Malcolm Hood" verrière qui permettait de se retourner pour voir son poursuivant. La verrière et le calibre .50 appartenait à Etienne Labardin, dont son père la conserver 70 ans. Il est à ce jour au musée Aeroscopia de Toulouse. Après s'être échappé de son crash pour sa 8e mission, Chuck se fit aider par les résistants maquisards à traverser les Pyrénées, pour rejoindre l'espagne et repartir en Uk, pendant son escape il servis la résistance française en fabriquant des bombes.
