OUR ILLUSTRATIONS. Ullswater. The scenery about Ullswater is, like all theEnglish Lake scenery, extremely beautiful,but one of the most charming views is shownin our illustration of Stybarrow Crag. It isin such delightful retreats as this that oneforgets the stress and strain of life, thedaily round, the common task, and lives anewer and more restful life for the timebeing, forgetful of the past, unmindful of taefuture, with its cares and competitions, con-scious only of the charm and quiet by whichhe is surrounded for the time being. UllswaterLake is fourteen miles from Windermere Sta-tion, and ten miles from Ambleside, the tworoutes joining at the Kirkstone Top Inn, sevenmiles from Windermere, three from Amble-side. From the latter, by a succession ofthe steepest pitches, generally called TheStruggle, The Kirkstone Inn, and Travellers Rest, 1,500 feet above the sealevel. Just past the inn, the Kirkstone, as it iscalled on account of its shape, is passed. Thencomes a steep descent of
