y. The morning of the third day was set apart forraces; the programme was a comprehensive oneand included six horse races, a donkey race, and threecamel races. The horse races were run over a wind-ing course, and provided excellent sport; the delightwith which this nation of riders viewed the proceed-ings was plainly written on their faces. The donkey races provoked much laughter, stillmore the camel races. The camels evidently didnot understand the object of what appeared to themmerely an unnecessary exertion ; with open mouthsand glassy eyes they stared round at their riders, andin the middle of the most thrilling final race, theylay peacefully down, and paid no further attentionto the proceedings. The result was indescribable;the spectators roared and screamed with delight.Fortunately our cinematograph successfully recordedthis scene.
