English: Madeleine Chapelle (1782-1849), milliner in Guéret, was put in contact with Ingres by her cousin, Adèle de Lauréal, in 1813. After some exchanges of letters, Madeleine decided to marry the kind painter who asked for her hand without knowing it. . She arrived in Rome in September and the marriage was celebrated on December 4, 1813, at the Church of San Martino ai Monti. Ingres often took her as a model.
Français : Madeleine Chapelle (1782-1849), modiste à Guéret, fut mise en contact avec Ingres par sa cousine, Adèle de Lauréal, en 1813. Après quelques échanges de lettres, Madeleine se décida à épouser le gentil peintre qui demandait sa main sans la connaître. Elle arriva à Rome en septembre et le mariage fut célébré le 4 décembre 1813, à l'église San Martino ai Monti. Ingres la prit souvent comme modèle.
Italiano: Madeleine Chapelle (1782-1849), modista a Guéret, fu messa in contatto con Ingres da sua cugina, Adèle de Lauréal, nel 1813. Dopo alcuni scambi di lettere, Madeleine decise di sposare il gentile pittore che le chiese la mano senza saperlo. Arrivò a Roma a settembre e il matrimonio fu celebrato il 4 dicembre 1813, nella chiesa di San Martino ai Monti. Ingres la prendeva spesso come modella.
