Le Berthier (du nom d'un ingénieur de la cie du rail Franco-Algerien): Le Mousqueton Berthier est un fusil de l'armée française adopté en 1892 et qui a été largement utilisé pendant la Première Guerre mondiale et durant la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Existe en modèle cavalerie (mdle 1890 avec un modèle cuirassier ayant une crosse différente adaptée au tir avec cuirasse) et artillerie ( mdle 1892 avec baionette). De calibre 8 mm (lebel), le mousqueton est chargé par une boîte-chargeur de type Mannlicher de trois cartouches sur barette ,extension de magasin pour 5 cartouches (modification 1916), Hausse et guidon modifiée en1920. Suppression de la baguette de nettoyage en 1927, changement de Chambre et percuteur pour la balle 1932N en 1932 (identifié N sur le canon). 5 établissements ont participé totalement ou en partiellement à la fabrication qui sont : Manufacture d'armes Chatellerault et Saint-Etienne , la manufacture de Tulles (réparations) , la chambres est sous traité pour sa fabrication à l' Ets Continsouza de Tulles , l'etablissement Delaunay-Belleville a également participé. The Berthier design began as the "Mousquetons Berthier" - a series of bolt action cavalry and artillery carbines . Berthier carbines were first issued in 1890 and 1892, and had been designed by Emile Berthier, an engineer at the French Algerian Railways,to be used with standard 8mm Lebel ammunition. This was in activity in WW1 and 2. |
