Text Appearing Before Image:
rts afforded in small places abroadare incomparably better than those found intowns of equal size in America, and then theroads—where is the American who has touredin France, Germany, Italy or Great Britain, andhas not returned ashamed of his own countryslack of interest in its rural thoroughfares.^ It is not an adequate excuse or apology to saythat our country is young. The science of modernroad making is not an old one, but the disgraceis with our system which makes politics para-mount to the material improvements of thecountry. Text Appearing After Image:
Our start from, the Hotel Frascati, Havre, ^vasmade with light hearts and keen anticipation. i ©eligijtful Jfeatures; of a jForeign tCrip for a motor car trip than a limousine. The ordi-nary cape top provides against rain, dust andexcessive heat of the sun, and allows so muchmore opportunity for observation than may behad from a limousine. One gives you a picturefrom horizon to horizon, with the sky above; theother limits the view and shuts you in in a waywhich, to many, is depressing. One of the particular delights of touring in anautomobile is that one may indulge to the fullestextent in what might be termed haphazarddecisions. Sudden whims to change the routeor to visit this place or that may be indulgedwithout the annoyance of exchanging or redeem-ing railway tickets. If you happen to be passingthrough some little village that strikes yourfancy, or chance to come across an inn whichlooks particularly inviting, you do not have toask the conductor for a stop-over check, norhurry to
