Français : Mosaïque des premières armoiries de Québec en usage de 1833 à 1949, sur une partie du plancher du palais Montcalm, à Québec. Un « Rapport du comité des armoiries de la cité de Québec » du 17 mai 1949 contient cette description des armes : « … un lion britannique couronné, avec, dans sa patte droite, une clef désignant Québec comme la clef du Canada. » Une étude sur les armoiries municipales canadiennes en 1937 donne la description héraldique des armoiries : [traduction :] De gueules au léopard couronné tenant dans sa patte dextre une clef, le tout d’or. La devise se lit « Natura Fortis Industria Crescit » (Nature forte croît par le travail). Les armes sont semblables à la partie inférieure de celles accordées au diocèse anglican de Québec par le roi britannique George III en 1793. The arms are blazoned as "Gules a lion passant guardant holding in the dexter paw a key erect Or". The symbolism: the English lion holds the town of Québec, the key to Canada. The motto reads "Natura Fortis Industria Crescit" (Strong nature prospers by work). The arms are similar to the lower part of those granted to the Anglican Diocese of Quebec by King George III in 1793.
