English: Postcard depicting a scene of the Mexican War of Independence, designed by Daniel del Valle and published by Buznego y Cía. (Buznego & Co.) in 1910. The scene depicts José María Morelos y Pavón, generalísimo of the revolutionary armies, breaking out of the siege of Cuautla with his soldiers on the early morning of May 2, 1812, after being besieged for 72 days. The scene also shows Colonel Galeana killing an enemy sentry who spotted them.

In 1910, Mexico celebrated the 100th Anniversary (Centenario) of the beginning of the War of Independence. As part of the celebrations, which were very large (partially since, coincidentally, the birthday of President Porfirio Díaz was being celebrated as well), many commemorative postcards were made. The tradition of commemorating important events using postcards emerged in the late 19th century in countries like France and the United States. They became very popular due to their low cost and attractive images, and by the early 20th century they had become widely used for cultural exchange.

This postcard is part of a series of eight which depict different important events of the War of Independence, published by Buznego y Cía. and designed by four artists of the National School of Fine Arts, in the Academy of San Carlos, "a group of the best contemporary Mexican artists," as the weekly newspaper El Tiempo Ilustrado stated on July 24.

La escena muestra a José María Morelos y Pavón, generalísimo de los ejércitos revolucionarios, rompiendo el sitio de Cuautla con sus soldados en la madrugada del 2 de mayo de 1812, después de haber resistido por 72 días. La escena también muestra al coronel Galeana matando a un centinela enemigo quien dio la alarma tras verlos.

En 1910, México celebró el Centenario del inicio de la Guerra de independencia. Entre las actividades que se llevaron a cabo para el evento, que fue de suma importancia (en parte porque, por coincidencia, el cumpleaños del presidente Porfirio Díaz también se celebró), se hizo un gran número de tarjetas postales. La tradición de conmemorar eventos importantes usando estas tarjetas surgió a fines del siglo XIX en países como Francia y Estados Unidos. Se volvieron bastante populares debido a su precio accesible y sus imágenes atractivas, y para principios del siglo XX se volvieron un medio de comunicación cultural usado ampliamente.

Esta tarjeta es parte de una serie de ocho, cada una representando un evento estelar distinto de la Guerra de independencia, editadas por Buznego y Cía. y diseñadas por cuatro artistas de la Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes, en la Academia de San Carlos, "un grupo de los mejores artistas mexicanos contemporáneos", según lo redactó el semanario El Tiempo Ilustrado el 24 de julio.
