A estátua do general Osório, que se ergue na praça 15 de Novembro, representa uma homenagem do povo ao grande soldado e foi fundida com o bronze de canhões tomados ao inimigo. Sua construção foi contratada pela importância de cento e sessenta contos de réis, com o escultor Rodolfo Bernardelli, sendo o pagamento efetuado com o produto de uma subscrição popular em que cada pessoa não podia dar mais de quinhentos réis. Recebendo a encomenda em 1887, Bernardelli enviou o modelo para Paris, em 1892, a fim de ser fundido nas oficinas Thibaut. (Diário de Notícias)
