O monumento mede 10 metros, com o pedestal, que é de granito nosso, hexagonal. Representa, em grupo, três vultos: Pedro Álvares Cabral, comandante da frota que aportou ao Brasil em 1500 e efetuou desembarque, tomando posse da terra para a coroa de Portugal; Pero Vaz Caminha, escrivão da frota e cuja carta a D. Manuel, o Venturoso, é a primeira notícia histórica do descobrimento; e frei Henrique de Coimbra, capitão de bordo, que foi o celebrante da primeira missa na terra descoberta. É de Rodolfo Bernardelli a obra artística, feita por encomenda da Associação Comemorativa do Quarto Centenário do Descobrimento do Brasil. (Diário de Notícias)
