DescriptionMondavi's Guyot spur Trained Vines.jpg |
From Author:At Robert Mondavi, they train the vines to maximize the amount of sunlight. That's why it's a T-shape. Each vine produces enough juice for 1 to 2 bottles of wine. Typical Guyot is involves cane training where the left and right "arms" are 1 year old canes that get removed at the end of the year. Mondavi's system is a modification of Guyot's which combines the Cordon de Royat practice of keeping a two permanent spurs (the left and right "arms" of the T) and allowing new canes to grow upwards and fruit. After harvest these canes will be removed, leaving only the "T-shape" to continue to age. |
