Description: This historic image created in 1964, depicted laboratory technician, Dorothy Roland at work in one of the Centers for Disease Control’s laboratories, carrying out standard laboratory practices. In this particular image she was adding a precise amount of liquid to a test tube, by manipulating a stopcock at the end of what appeared to be a modified separation flask. Modern day protocols now call for the laboratorian executing such tasks, to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including safety goggles, gloves, and a face mask.
