Modern toy gun |

Description |
English: Part of a cast lead alloy, toy gun of late Post-Medieval or Modern date, probably AD 1850 - 1900. Only the stock survives; the rest has broken away and is missing. The stock is hollow cast, becoming solid at the break, where the trigger guard would have been. The lower portion of the stock has scrolled floral designs on either side while the upper stock, which protrudes from a mouth-like moulding, is decorated with cross hatching. Toy guns were popular from the late 17th century and some examples even fired. This is probably a late example dating from about AD 1850- 1900. It has a cream coloured patina and is 22.3mm long, 11.8mm wide and 3.8mm thick. It weighs 3.14gm.
Similar toy weapons can be found on the database; see for example records IOW-4DEA51 and BERK-9FA2F0. |
