Fromwhat has been said, it canreadily be seen that thediagnosis of rheumatismin its various phases is farfrom being easy. Moreover, articularrheumatism may also bemistaken for: Syphilitic,gonorrheal, tuberculous,and the so-called septicarthritides, scurvy, and its allied affections and osteomyelitis. In our endeavor to differentiate rheumatism from the diversform> of articular and periarticular inflammations we must bearin mind that rheumatism is a primary febrile affection, as a rule.bidden in development : that it- inflammatory process is transient,and its localization multifarious and rapidly shifting, and, finally.
