Title
Modern: Incomplete button cover
Description
English: An incomplete silver probable button, probably of Post medieval dating (19th to 20th Century AD).

Around 25% of the button is present, consisting of a sheet silver decorated layer, which would have covered the button back. The button would have originally been circular in shape, but the fragment present is sub square. From the amount present, a ropework border is visible around the outside and possible foliate design on the inside. Three numbers have been stamped on the reverse, in a modern style font similar to Times New Roman. The first is unclear and is either 3 or 8. The other two numbers are 19. A ridge is present around the outside.

It measures 14.0 mm in length, 12.9 mm wide and 2.4 mm thick. It weighs 0.5 g.

The style of the stamped numbers on the reverse is indicative of a more recent date, and would suggest that this button cover is less than 300 years old and should not be considered to be potential Treasure under the requirements of the Treasure Act 1996.
