The model illustrates the path from an "irritation" (vegetative) to the perception (conscious) of pain. There is missing (for greater clarity):
- the role of "Formatio reticularis" and "Cerebellum" with the prevailing functions of "somatomotoric coordination" and "equilibrium" and:
- the nexuses to the systems:
- endocrinous (with mental influencing functions) and
- immunity (with functions of existential defense).
