Description
English: A model of an early 19th Century Norwegian solider guarding a bonfire beacon. Also an old bidding stick ("budstikke" in Norwegian).From the exhibitions at the Armed Forces Museum of Norway (Forsvarsmuseet) at Akershus Fortress in Oslo, Norway.

"A wooden stick or an iron bar later, later a cylinder of similar shape in which to place a written message, was sent from farm to farm to summon people to meetings, enlistment or mobilization in case of war."
