Summary[edit]

Description Mark XIII torpedos un the deck edge elevator of the U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS Bennington (CV-20), ready to be loaded on Grumman TBM Avenger torpedo bombers of for an attack on a Japanese convoy, during operations in support of the Okinawa invasion, March 1945. Note the wooden drag rings and stabilizers fitted to the noses and tails of these torpedos. An officer, wearing a leather flight jacket, is standing near the front of the nearest torpedo.
