Now the time was near when we were January1916 The Missionary Visitor 31 to go home. Oh, what joy! The BibleSchool had been closed for almost a year.The students were anxiously waiting tohear when the Bible School would open,But here came a testing time. We hadspent all these months on the hills andyet full strength was not realized; how-ever, much improvement had beenmade. When the doctor was told thereal condition he was very doubtful about my husband being able to takecharge of that work. Other plans weresuggested. The way seemed closed andoh, what a disappointment! Again Godin His mercy and wisdom made the wayclear enough so that we could take onestep at a time until we found ourselvesat home at Bulsar at work, and theBible School running successfullywith His blessings. Praise His Name!

THE conception of God as the All-wise Creator and loving Fatherof all, is entirely foreign to theminds of the aboriginals of India. Ifthey do sometimes admit the possibilityof such a God, they absolutely ignoreHim. To them He is not a necessity.All the good and beautiful things of lifeare taken for granted, and their religionconsists entirely of taking account ofthe evils of this life, their causes andhow to escape them. All evil is supposed to be inflicted bymenacing spirits, devils, and witches. There are seven women in our villagewho are feared as witches to a fargreater degree than the more etherealmembers of this dark family, which islegion; doubtless because they are morereal, and no way has yet been discoveredfor bribing or appeasing them. Indeed,it would be risky and dangerous even toaccuse them of being witches. But thewhole list of other evil spirits may bequite easily appeased if they are offeredenough goa
