Summary[edit]

Description
English: Main sorption processes of adsorbate molecules and atoms at mineral-water interface used to remediate contaminated sites and clean wastewaters. The image in the background is from the revegetation program of the Barren Jales gold mine spoil in Portugal. The mobility, and thus phytotoxicity, of arsenic was reduced durably with organic and inorganic amendments. Adapted from Manceau et al. (Quantitative speciation of heavy metals in soils and sediments by synchrotron X-ray techniques. In Applications of Synchrotron Radiation in Low-Temperature Geochemistry and Environmental Science, P. Fenter, M. Rivers, N.C. Sturchio, S. Sutton Eds. Reviews in Mineralogy and Geochemistry, Mineralogical Society of America, Washington, DC., 2002, vol. 49, 341-428.)
