Description

I've never even noticed it, until a friend of mine told me about it. Some Americans he was interpreting for wanted to see Poland from communist times, so he'd found out about this place and took them there. They were delighted, as they'd never seen anything quite like it. Supposedly, it's really just like the 'old days' inside, maybe except that spoons and forks are not chained to tables. ;)

Of course, the fact that this milk bar exists wouldn't actually be all that strange in itself. I bet there's a lot of similar establishments throughout Warsaw.

However, Nowy Świat is considered to be one of the most representative and 'chic' streets in Warsaw (first Starbucks in Poland opened there).

It makes me wonder if this isn't actually a high-profile, modern enterprise in the backend; a carefully and consciously preserved relic up front, but with modern management, etc.
