| Description |
English: Milestone on the Royal Canal at Oldtown, Co. Meath It marks the 23 mile point. Measuring backwards we can establish that the zero point was at the long-gone Broadstone basin near Phibsorough in Dublin.
Also notable that English miles of 5280ft were used rather than Irish miles of 6720ft. The adjacent Dublin to Galway railway line's 23 mile point is only about 400m further west, demonstrating how closely mated to the canal it is (its zero point is also at Broadstone - that station is long gone as well). |
