| Description |
English: Tiles taken from a shrine found in Varamin, Iran 1890. Sold to a collection in Paris, 1901 in the Worlds Fair. It was then purchased and taken to NY until 1940.
Buyer outbid the metropolitan and purchase estimate was $150K in 1940. When the sun sets the light illuminates the lustreware tiles. This is an important religious object and is supposed to point you to Mecca |
