Description
English: Soviet dignitaries and members of the Soviet press prepare to depart the area aboard an Mil Mi-8 Hip helicopter following a ceremony celebrating the arrival of the joint Soviet-American Bering Bridge Expedition. Organized to promote better relations between the United States and the USSR, the expedition encouraged natives of Alaska to visit relatives in the Soviet Union. Team members trekked 800 miles through the Soviet Union to the International Date Line and then continued on to Little Diomede.
