The Mexican National Railway,traversing the country from the capital to the UnitedStates frontier, was opened in November, 1888, as wellas a line southwards to Oaxaca, later; and thus thenineteenth century closed with an era of growingstability and prosperity at home and a creditable reputa-tion abroad.
