Summary[edit]

Description

Messier 42/43 - The Orion Nebula Credit: RADEC, Giuseppe Donatiello

Also known as the Great Nebula in Orion or the Great Orion Nebula, M42 is one of the brightest nebulae. It's visible to the naked eye at south of Orion's Belt in the constellation of Orion. At 1,344 light-years (412 pc), M42 is the closest region of star formation.

The image is a short exposure of a few minutes, equalized not to saturate the central region and to show the multiple star Theta1 Orionis (Trapezium).
