Description

Die Baureihe 123 ist das bisher meistgebaute Modell von Mercedes-Benz. Er zählt zur oberen Mittelklasse, bei Mercedes heute E-Klasse genannt. Vorgänger ist der W 114/115, auch „Strich 8“ (/8) genannt. In manchen Ländern wird das Modell von Liebhabern auch als Piano bezeichnet. Sowohl der Vorgänger als auch der Nachfolger liefen jeweils rund ein Jahr parallel mit dem W 123 vom Band. Die Baureihe 123 setzte Maßstäbe in der Fahrzeugsicherheit und war Wegbereiter des Kombis in dieser Klasse sowie des Turbodiesels in Mercedes-Benz-Personenwagen.

Vom Serienbeginn im November 1975 bis Januar 1986 liefen insgesamt fast 2,7 Millionen Fahrzeuge vom Band. Nachfolger wurde Ende 1984 die Baureihe 124.

W123 is the internal chassis-designation Mercedes-Benz used for their executive line of cars, manufactured between 1975 and 1986.

The W123 models surpassed their predecessor, the W114 and W115 models, as the most successful Mercedes, selling 6.7 million cars before replacement by the W124 after 1985. The additional range of smaller Mercedes-Benz W201 models were introduced in 1982.
