Title
Medieval seal matrix
Description
English: A lead alloy seal matrix dating from the Medieval period, probably from the 13th or 14th century. It is a wide pointed oval shape in plan. The central motif is indistinct but may be a bird. The legend has untidy crude lettering making it difficult to interpret; it perhaps reads: "+ S'. RO(G)'. I . b.ON(E)I . " meaning Seal of Roger, but the surname is not clear. On the reverse is a central rib with a damaged suspension loop. The lead has a cream patina except where there is slight damage.
