Description
English: Incomplete large rotary key, elaborate bit with cleft in outside and inside edge and on both sides of vertical cleft in the base which also has a deep logitudinal groove, horizontal grooves on both faces. Hollow cast shank with bands of incised herring bone decoration separated by transverse lines, collared bow, possibly originally an openwork cruciform, of which less than half survives. Surviving length 80mm. Length of bit 27mm. Width across bit and shank 25mm. Bit 8mm thick. See Egan (1998) fig.88, no.313. 14th-15th century.
