Medieval Dress Fastener (Dress)
Description
English: Medieval to post-medieval copper alloy double-hooked dress clasp. A shield-shaped sheet plate, with engraved rocker-arm cross on saltire within a border, is riveted to the centre of a wrought strip that tapers from the mid point and ends in sharp hooks. The plate is badly distorted. See related clasps with lozengiform or rectangular plates in Read 2008, early post-medieval Class S, Type 1. Length of strip 53mm, width of strip in centre 7.5mm. Plate length 33mm. Width 27mm. c.1450 - c.1550.
