Title
Medieval needle: Heavy duty needle
Description
English: A Medieval copper alloy heavy duty needle, possibly for stiching leather or another tough material. The needle has a circular eye within an oval head that has been hammered flat from a tube of copper, to give the head a scoop-like appearance. The shank of the needle has been formed by rolling the sheet of copper alloy into a tight tapering tube. The needle appears complete as the end is rounded. Although hard to date precisely, the form and construction of this needle suggests it date to the medieval period.
