Title
Medieval buckle (front)
Description
English: A double looped oval shaped buckle made from cast copper. In plan, the buckle is an oval. The loops are undecorated, but the outer edge is obliquely angled. One loop is distorted in shape, this may be recent damage. The reverse is undecorated and the surfaces of the loop are obliquely angled. The strap bar is narrowed, and is trapezoidal in section. The pin is missing. The buckle has heavily abraded surfaces. The buckle measures 18.68mm long and 16.69mm wide. It weighs 1.4g. Egan and Pritchard (2002 Dress Accessories Boydell Press) date similar buckles (No. 380 and 381) to the late 13th to mid 14th century.
