Medieval Jetton: French Tournai Type
Description
English: An extremely worn French Medieval jetton, c. AD 1451-1497. The jetton was produced in Tournai and is of the three lis in field type. It has suffered from significant damage on its circumference and therefore the obverse legend and reverse lettering are illegible.

Obverse: Heater-shield France-modern within a granulated circle. No further decoration to the sides or above shield.

Reverse: Triple stranded straight cross fleuretty in four arched tressure; further detail illegible.

Similar jettons are discussed and illustrated in Barnard (1981), 'The Casting-Counter and the Counting-Board', p. 118-119, esp. no. 46.
