English: Defence Medal 1939-45, WW2 part of medal set awarded to Lieut. Colonel Frederick Charles Cornwall, 30th Battalion, 2NZEF, WW2 cupronickel medal 36mm diameter, plain, non-swivelling suspender, with ribbon Obverse- bareheaded effigy of King George VI, facing left. Around the perimeter is the legend "GEORGIVS VI D-G-BR-OMN-REX F-D-IND-IMP." reverse- Royal Crown resting on an oak sapling, flanked by a lion and a lioness above stylised waves. At the top left is the year "1939" and at the top right the year "1945". The exergue has the words "THE DEFENCE MEDAL" in two lines. Ribbon- 32mm wide grosgrain ribbon, bands of green, black then green, repeated and separated by a wide orange band.

Notes Defence Medal 1939-45 Lt. Colonel Frederick Charles Cornwall, 30th Battalion, 2NZEF, WW2 WW1- Gallipoli, Egypt, France; WW2- 30 Battalion 2NZEF- Fiji, New Caledonia, Guadalcanal, Green Island. MC. During WW2 Lieutenant Colonel Cornwall commanded 30th Infantry Battalion between September 1943 and April 1944. He was stationed in Fiji and New Caledonia and took part in actions in Vella Lavella and the Nissan (Green) Island Landing, and later received the US Legion of Merit
