Description
English: Statue of the Virgin (ca. 1550-1570) in the centre of the rotunda in the Basilica of Our Lady of Hanswijk (Mechelen, Flanders, Belgium). It is possibly a replcia of an older (gothic) statue.

Both Mary and the Child were crowned in 1876 by archbishop Deschamps at the behest of pope Pius IX, which can be seen as an exceptionable favour.

The Madonna carries a sceptre. The clothes date back to 1888, when the 900th anniversary of the miracle was celebrated.

Maria én Jezus werden in 1876 gekroond door aartsbisschop Deschamps in opdracht van paus Pius IX, wat als een gunst mag worden beschouwd.

Ze draagt een scepter en de huidige kleren van het beeld dateren van 1888, toen de 900ste verjaardag van het mirakel met een jubelfeest werd gevierd.
