Mauna Kea summit, a few minutes later, I went over and climbed the summit, where it was about 25 degrees F, with a 30 mile per hour wind. (Luckily I brought gear). I was there for sunrise, and spent some time exploring around, an interesting and desolate environment. Three hours later, I was snorkeling in Keauhou Bay. (Life is wonderful, some days.) The clouds may be due to Vog Vog (Volcano SmOG) Our planned stay at Volcano House on the Kilauea crater rim is cancelled, due to high levels of Sulfur Dioxide , listening to the radio on the drive up (at about 4 AM) I heard that due to an unfavorable wind shift, the Volcano House, and Volcano Village are being evacuated. The last photo my trusty little handheld Nikon will take, this particular one lasted a year (about 12,000 photos) and a lot of use in the field. The wind was so strong this morning that it blew the camera (on it's little tripod) right over, and down about a four foot drop. Pele was nice to me, I got some fine photos this morning before it's demise.
