The sacred symbol whichgives the name to the Mount of the Holy Cross is derived fromtwo great and deep depressions, one vertical, and one horizontal,which cross each other nearly at right angles on the bare easternslope of the mountain, which in winter become filled with great MARVELS OF NATURE. 17 masses of snow.
