Andfive years ago even, the scanty population of one hundred thirty-fivethousand one hundred and eighty people produced twelve millionbushels of wheat in one season. The following year the crop wasalmost double. Since that time a steady stream of settlers haspoured into the Territory, and the wheat fields have multiplied by thethousand, until now the population are looking forward to no distantperiod when tivo hundred million bushels of wheat will be raised inone season. In 1885 Dakotas exhibit at the Exposition in New Orleans wasthe largest and most remarkable of all the Territorial departments.The arrangement was unique ; and the preparation, on so grand ascale, denoted that Dakota farmers were confident of success.
