Mormon business isconducted on the co-operative plan, — onegreat company beingorganized to purchasegoods in large quanti-ties for all the Mor-mon settlements. Thiscompany bears thename of Zions Co-operative MercantileInstitution. Its head-quarters are in SaltLake City, in an im-mense building ofbrick, three hundredand eighteen feet longby fifty-three feet wide,three stories above thecellar. An addition tothis building, twenty-five by one hundredand ninety-five feet,used for a warehouse,has been erected at anexpense of $175,000.The business trans-acted here annuallyamounts to millions ofdollars. That such a city and such a people should exist to-day, where,forty years ago, for a thousand miles around, there was not a civilizedabode, is a marvellous fact. Should another forty years achieve anequal advance throughout that grand mountain domain, the realitywill challenge the wonder of mankind. RAILROAD KINGS. We add to the foregoing marvels of enterprise, the portraits andbrief biographies of seven Railroad Kings, — public men who havecontributed largely to the progress of the New West, by constructingrailroads.
