| Description |
English: The reverse of a 1942 press photo of journalist Martin Agronsky. It shows no copyright, but indicates that the image came into possession of the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs at some point, as a file photo (to which it is credited). An affixed report reads:
"BARRED FROM AIR AT SINGAPORE Martin Agronsky, National Broadcasting Company commentator at Singapore, who, with Cecil Brown, Columbia Broadcasting System commentator at Singapore, has been barred from the air by the British. Their broadcasting permits and their credentials with the British forces in the Far East have been canceled because their broadcasts were deemed injurious to the morale, although all their scripts have been passed by British censors." The report is inaccurate; Brown was censored, while Agronsky was not (something clarified in newspapers the day after they broke news that he was) - Agronsky was the reporter who communicated Brown's censoring to Europe and the United States, as he could not himself. |
