English: Portrait of Marie Clotilde of France (1759-1802), wife of Carlo Emanuele IV of Sardinia
Italiano: "Il ritratto di Maria Clotilde di Borbone Francia, moglie di Carlo Emanuele IV, conclude la tradizione, iniziata con Francesca d'Orléans, di collocare al centro del frontespizio dell'alcova il ritratto della principessa regnante: lo Stato Descrittivo dei Quadri del 1822 (ASTO, Carte Alfieri n. 28) lo identifica erroneamente con quello di Elisabetta di Lorena, moglie di Carlo Emanuele III, probabilmente a causa dell'omonimia tra i due sovrani. Il corretto riconoscimento della modella spetta ad Andreina Griseri e trova pieno riscontro sia nell'abbigliamento e nell'acconciatura che rispecchiano il gusto dell'ultimo quarto del settecento, sia sul confonto fisioniomico con gli altri ritratti noti della sovrana, primo fra tutti quello di Ludwig Guttenbrunn (collezione privata). L'esecuzione dell'ovale nella Camera dell'alcova dovrebbe quindi collocarsi cronologicamente a ridosso dell'ascesa al trono del sovrano (1796), sicuramente prima della partenza della Corte per la Sardegna in seguito all'invasione francese (1798)."
