Description

Mardi Gras, New Orleans in the late 19th century.

The view is recognizable as Canal Street, the Uptown/Lake corner of the intersection with St. Charles Street. A parade, which includes a chariot pulled by mutiple horses and marchers in costume of soldiers of ancient Rome followed by a horse-drawn float, is seen turning from heading riverwards on the Uptown side of Canal to go up St. Charles. In the foreground are a crowd of revelers, many in costume.
