Title
Marché du temple, 1840
et Couvent de l'adoration perpétuelle du Saint-Sacrement.
Description
Situated in the Temple neighborhood in Paris' 3rd arrondissement, the Marché du Temple and the Couvent de l'Adoration perpétuelle et du Saint-Sacrement are located near the Rue du Temple. The market was built by Jules de Mérindol and Ernest Legrand between 1863 and 1865. A fortress situated between the Rue Dupetit-Thouars, Rue Picardie, Rue Perrée, and Rue Spuller had previously occupied the space. Clothes and shoes were sold there. In 1865, the wooden buildings were replaced by a metal and glass structure, enclosing the market so that it no longer had an "open market" feel. The convent is located at the intersection of Rue du Temple and the Rue de la Corderie.
