Description |
English: In 1913, the American Federation of Labor, a nationwide federation of individual labor unions, held its annual convention in Seattle. Local labor unions proudly promoted their work. Sometime during the 1913 convention, a photographer snapped this photo of a man buying a cigar from a saleswoman behind a counter. The banner over the counter proclaims "Union Smokes and Chews, Made in Seattle, Presented to you by a Maid in Seattle." Original photograph: 1913. Copied after 1975 by the Museum of History and Industry.
