Deutsch: Ein de:Maigelein (hier eine Makroaufnahme) war ein aus Grünglas gefertigtes Trinkgefäß des 15.-16. Jahrhunderts. Diese robusten becherartigen Gefäße hatten die durchsichtigen und zerbrechlicheren Gläser einer feineren „Tafelkultur“ im 14. Jahrhunderts abgelöst und waren zu einem erschwinglichen „Massenprodukt“ geworden. Die nach der Schmelzprozedur in Tonformen gegossenen Glasrohlinge wurden dann einer Verfeinerung zugeführt und waren damit gebrauchsfertig. Ihre Herstellung ist aus verschiedenen Regionen Deutschlands bekannt, zu denen auch das Rheinland gehörte. Aufgrund der in hohen Stückzahlen produzieren Gläser, sind diese noch in vielen Samlungen der Museen erhalten. Das in Köln gezeigte Maigelein hat eine Höhe von 5,5 cm und einen Durchmesser von 7 cm.
