Portrait painting of Mahatma Gandhi (1869-1948). Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was an Indian lawyer, politician, and social activist who became the leader of the independence movement against the British rule of India.

English: Portrait painting of Mahatma Gandhi; made using a black and white photograph from 1931 as a reference. Mahatma Gandhi is considered the founding father of India. Gandhi is internationally esteemed for his doctrine of nonviolent protest (satyagraha) to achieve political and social progress.
